Frankie Mara
Certified Intimacy Coordinator
What is an Intimacy Coordinator?
An Intimacy Coordinator (IC) ensures that scenes involving intimacy (including simulated sex, nudity, or hyper-exposure) are approached with clear communication, consent, boundaries, and safety.
We work closely with directors and actors to plan, rehearse, and film intimate scenes, while advocating for performers’ boundaries and support storytelling that respects the artistic vision of the director.
Intimacy Coordinators ensure that everyone feels informed, empowered, and protected on set and on screen.
Approach
Collaboration
As an Intimacy Coordinator my goal is to bring the director’s vision for scenes of intimacy to life while supporting the performers’ wellbeing so they are empowered to give their best performances.
As a creative partner, I work to support the artistic goals of each scene by honouring flexibility and adaptability for each project whether that means supporting the blocking and choreography of a scene, or stepping back and providing space for everyone to do their best work.
My practice allows for the rehearsal and shooting processes to flow more efficiently to save production valuable time and resources.
Consent
I am a consent-based practitioner with over 15 years of experience in gender and sexuality education, teaching, and coaching.
I work to facilitate conversations with performers around consent and boundaries so that they are equipped to film their scenes in a setting where they know they are respected and safe.
When actors are informed, prepared, understood, and safe, they can fully inhabit their roles and deliver their most authentic performances.
My practice aligns with up-to date SAG-AFTRA and ACTRA protocols and best practices for consent based work for film and television.
Care
As a queer, non-binary person, I bring a deep sense of nuance, empathy, and attentiveness to my work as an Intimacy Coordinator. I understand that every cast and crew member is unique and deserving of thoughtful consideration. Each story and character also carries its own complexity, requiring care and context-specific support.
My practice is rooted in a harm-reductive approach that centres and celebrates diversity, with a commitment to equity, consent, and collaboration at every stage of production.
I help ensure that cast and crew can do their best work safely and confidently so that immersive, powerful storytelling can unfold.
Testimonials
Working with Frankie on my most recent short film was an incredible experience. She quite literally saved our set. From the very beginning, Frankie made sure every actor and crew member felt safe, respected, and comfortable. She went far above and beyond her job, making sure that not only could our film be made, but that it could be made in a way that protected everyone’s boundaries and wellbeing. Frankie’s professionalism, empathy, and communication set the tone for the entire production. Her presence transformed the atmosphere on set and made genuine collaboration possible. I can’t imagine making another film like this without her.

Skill Set
Choreography and Movement Coaching
I have extensive experience in choreographing scenes of intimacy. Upon the request of the director, I can assist with movement coaching, scene blocking, and marking scenes of intimacy so that their creative vision is brought to life to its fullest.
Hyper-exposed Work
When we think of intimacy on film we often think first of scenes that contain kissing, sex, or nudity. However, performers are often hyper-exposed for scenes that centre medical procedures, birthing, breast feeding, bathing, dancing, and more.
My scope includes providing actors with support for scenes where they are hyper-exposed and to liaise with the creative team to ensure the artistry of those scenes are fully realized.
Mental Health First Aid
I am currently in-training with the Association for Mental Health Coordinators to become a Certified Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) for film, television, and live performance. My ethos of practice as an IC stems from a trauma-informed and consent-based practices for cast and crew.
Please note that I am currently trained to provide Mental Health First Aid, however I will not be accepting work as an on-set MHC until my training is complete in 2026.
